This October, PKF will once again turn pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, rallying its people, clients, and the wider community behind a cause that has touched countless lives across the Hunter.
The centrepiece of the month-long campaign will be the 20th annual Breast Care Breakfast, to be held on Thursday, 29 October at NEX Newcastle. More than a fundraising event, the Breakfast represents two decades of community support for the Hunter Nurse Education Group (HNEG), and the patients and families they care for every day.
For 20 years, the event has brought together businesses, community leaders, healthcare professionals and supporters with a shared purpose: raising funds to enhance education, training, and professional development opportunities for breast care nurses throughout the Hunter region.
"Reaching the 20-year milestone is incredibly special," said Bob Bell, Managing Director at PKF Newcastle and Sydney.
"What began as a community fundraising initiative following the tragic loss of a Partner’s late wife, has grown into one of the region's most recognised Breast Cancer Awareness Month events. Over the past two decades, we've seen firsthand the impact these funds have had in supporting breast care nurses and, ultimately, improving outcomes for patients and their families."
Last year’s impact
In 2025, over 450 people attended the 19th annual Breast Care Breakfast. It was again a record-breaking year, raising an impressive $68,299 – over $8,000 more than 2024. To date, the Breakfast has raised over $450,000, with all funds going to HNEG. Through the support of the community, the Breakfast has:
- Supported 2,901 nurses;
- Delivered 15 Education Evenings and 28 Education Days;
- Organised two conferences;
- Funded 92 nurses to attend conferences;
- Provided 10 travel grants;
- Funded 35 nurses to undertake breast cancer-related study;
- Supported two postgraduate scholarships; and
- Research grant applications are currently underway.
Casey Hutchinson, Chair of HNEG, said, "Every year, we see the generosity of the PKF community translate into real outcomes for breast care nurses and the people they support. The education and development opportunities made possible through these funds help us strengthen our skills, build confidence, and stay at the forefront of patient care. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Breast Care Breakfast, we extend our heartfelt thanks to PKF and everyone who has contributed to the success of this remarkable event over the years.”
While the Breakfast remains the highlight of PKF's pink activities, the firm is encouraging the community to get involved throughout October by wearing pink, hosting fundraising events, making a donation, or attending the Breakfast in support of the cause.
"Breast cancer affects so many individuals and families in our community," said Bell.
"As we celebrate 20 years of the Breakfast, we're reminded that every ticket purchased, every raffle ticket sold, every donation, and every conversation helps make a difference. We're proud of what our community has achieved together over the past two decades and excited to see the impact we can continue to make in the years ahead."
