PKF Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan: Advancing Cultural Awareness and Respect

Our commitment to Reconciliation

PKF Australia is proud to be part of the national reconciliation movement through the launch of our inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This plan marks a significant step in our journey to strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and promote cultural understanding across our organisation.

Our RAP is built on the three core pillars of relationships, respect, and opportunities. These pillars guide our efforts to create a workplace that values diversity, fosters inclusion, and contributes meaningfully to reconciliation. They also align with the five dimensions of reconciliation: race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity, unity, and historical acceptance.

Why we introduced Cultural Awareness Training

As part of our RAP commitments, PKF Australia has implemented cultural awareness training across our national offices. This initiative was developed to increase understanding, recognition, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and rights.

Pindara Training Services, led by Andrew Johnston, was identified as a provider whose approach aligned with our values. His training was selected for its clarity, relevance, and ability to engage teams across our diverse network. The sessions were designed to be accessible and impactful, encouraging reflection and respectful dialogue.

How the training has been rolled out

The training is now a core component of our employee induction program, ensuring that every new team member begins their journey at PKF with a foundation of cultural knowledge. This initiative supports our broader diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy, which aims to create a workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

The impact has been significant. Our teams have gained a deeper understanding of First Nations cultures and respectful ways of engagement. This has enhanced our ability to work with First Nations businesses and communities, and to better understand their unique needs.

A visual representation of our journey

To symbolise our commitment, we commissioned an artwork titled The Path We Tread by Gomeroi artist Jodie Herden. Unveiled at our Tamworth office, the piece represents PKF as a central gathering circle, connecting with communities, clients, and colleagues. It reflects our core value of belonging together and serves as a visual reminder of our reconciliation journey.

Staff across PKF received button pins featuring the artwork, worn proudly as a symbol of commitment and a way to spark meaningful conversations.

Looking ahead

Our RAP is just the beginning. PKF Australia is committed to continuing this journey with integrity and purpose. We will build on this foundation to develop future RAPs and initiatives that create lasting impact.

We invite our clients, partners, and community to walk this path with us. Together, we can build a more inclusive and respectful Australia.
