PKF take on Dry July for the 12th year in support of client

This month the PKF Australia team is taking on the Dry July challenge. As the Auditor of the Dry July Foundation, this cause is one close to the hearts of many of the PKF team, hence they chose to get involved and take a month off alcohol to raise vital funds for people affected by cancer, with this year’s team already raising over $11,000 for the Foundation.

PKF’s Audit and Assurance Partner, Martin Matthews, is a huge advocate of Dry July and has participated in all but one year since its establishment in 2008, encouraging workplaces to create teams and friends to get behind the charity.

It’s been fantastic to have worked with Dry July since its humble beginnings and amazing to see how the supported charities have significantly benefited over the years. said Martin.

“In reality, a month off the booze is a small price to pay and being part of a Dry July Workplace Team strengthens your team’s existing rapport as you are all striving towards achieving a common goal. The team will reap the personal benefits a month off alcohol can give you but more importantly, the funds raised go towards helping the lives of people affected by cancer. Having a month off alcohol in order to raise funds for Dry July is so worthwhile and I would recommend any business to get a team together and get behind it. Not only are you supporting a fantastic cause but in turn it’s helping you and your team make healthier lifestyle changes and save a few dollars as well!”.

Since 2008, Dry July has inspired more than 200,000 Aussies to go dry, raising $60 million for people affected by cancer, and funding projects at more than 80 cancer organisations across Australia. All funds raised go to assisting those affected by cancer, whether it is a lift to a life-saving appointment, guidance from a specialist nurse, connection to an informative voice, access to therapy programs or a bed close to treatment.

Whilst PKF is aware of the struggles of the hospitality sector due to COVID, in order to continue to support both industries, Martin has sweetened the deal for anyone that joins the PKF team by buying them a ‘Golden Ticket’. A Golden Ticket gives a Dry July participant a night off their challenge for a minimum cost of $25. Their night off will still make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer and will still assist the Hospitality industry by, for example, meeting a friend in a bar for a drink – exactly how Dry July started.
