Liam has the unique combination of commercial and professional practice experience. He has been the Financial Controller of the Bank of Queensland Limited, and prior to that role he held the position of Head of Internal Audit. Liam has had over seven years external audit experience with the international accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand in Brisbane and London where he worked with clients from a large range of industries. Since early 2001, Liam has overseen the successful expansion of the PKF Brisbane audit and assurance practice.

He provides growing clients with comprehensive audit services and advice on related issues such as system selection and implementation, risk management, internal systems and controls. Having been a senior financial manager in the commercial sector, Liam has a unique understanding of a client’s needs and can work effectively with internal resources.

He is also an Executive member of PKF Australia and International Liaison Partner for PKF International.

Recent examples of work include:
  • Managing the audit engagement for a number of ASX listed public companies with a particular focus on the mining and technology sectors
  • Successfully led the audit engagement for a number of start-up clients from their establishment, through the IPO process and following as a newly listed entity. This includes helping them navigate the regulatory environment of an IPO and preparing them for the reporting requirements of a listed entity
  • Assisted with the development of a risk management framework of a large mining company, helping them to safeguard assets and protect their business.

Accounting for the Research and Development Tax Incentive

As an investment tax credit is accounted for either as a government grant or as income tax or as both but alarmingly it falls outside the scope of both relevant accounting standards AASB 112 Income taxes and AASB 120 Accounting for Government Grants and Disclosure of Government Assistance.
